This lyrically talented rapper from the RVA area is known as EDES - yes, it has to be in all caps. He's not afraid to keep it real and it seems like his inspiration to writing was him being tired of the current rap game! Not only does he rap and make music, but he also acts and has some upcoming film projects that we should be on the lookout for.

Introducing...

EDES

Location: DMV

Age: 20

Talent: Rapper

Social Media: IG:@consumer2supplier, SC: @mr.rubberband, Twitter: @15characters, SoundCloud: EDES

Me: I’ve known you for a while and I been knew you had bars, so what made you take it seriously?

EDES: Mmm.. for real for real, like, I just kinda got fed up with the music I was listening to so I started trying to make my own sh*t and then I started liking it. So I started like… you know, I would just hear beats and tried to make, like, songs.

Me: Okay! Why now though?

EDES: I don’t know. I guess just, like, that was the timing it took. Cause I was writing like, when I first started writing. I was writing poetry. And then n*ggas put me on to battle rap. So, then I started writing bars bars. And then like, it wasn’t until last year that I started for real for real trying to make music. And that was cause I got tired of listening to the same sh*t.

(laughs) EDES keeps it real! Alright, one of your songs is called “Schlop Schlop,” what does that mean?

(laughs) Ight, ight! We gon keep it gudda then. Alright, so it’s levels to… you know what I’m saying, the types of things a woman can do to a man. You feel me? Like, on your basic level, you have like, top.

Oh my god!!

And then like… you know what I’m saying, when you get to the professional level, you have “Schlop Schlop.”

Which song do you thing is your best song?

Mmm… It depends. Cause I only have two songs officially officially out right now, so out of those two songs… it just depends like, “Schlop Schlop” is more like a vibe song and the other song is called “Talk that Sh*t” and that’s just me rapping, like just –

Spitting bars?

Spitting some bars. If you like bars then, you gon’ like the other one.

Alright, different rappers do different things to get in the zone while in the studio. What do you do?

Deada**, I don’t get in the zone when I’m in the studio, like, everything I do happens before I get in the studio. When I get into the studio, it’s like I wanna get in the studio, record, and then get out. So, like, everything will be prepped. I spit the jawn probably a hundred times before I just go in –

So, basically you prepare yourself before you get in, so that when you get in, it won’t be a matter of, “Let me get myself ready.”

Basically.

Basically, you always ready.

Yeah.

Okay. Okay. What kind of rapper would you describe yourself as?

I don’t even know. I don’t know. Cause I’m myself, so I don’t feel like I’m like nobody, but I know I have influences I guess.

Would you say that you were more so a storyteller? Or…

Damn, I’m trying to do all of that sh*t for real for real. Cause, I have songs where I could story tell, then I have songs where I’m just spittin, and then… I don’t know. I would describe myself as an artist. I couldn’t put a label on it.

Who are you doing this for?

My. Got. Damn. Self n*gga. (laughs) Nah, I’m just kidding. For real, n*ggas is trying to come up. Not only for myself, but fam and my n*ggas. Everybody else, they just around. You know what I’m saying? As far as family, anybody I consider family or consider a day one n*gga to me, that’s really all I care about.

What makes you different from the rest?

The fact that I can actually spit. These n*ggas (laughs) –

You tryna call out all of these rappers (laughs)!

Nah, it’s some n*ggas that can spit, and then it’s just a lot of n*ggas that are just, lit. And you can’t downplay there music, cause it’s lit. What makes me different? I feel like I’m better bar wise then a lot of people. But, I’m incorporating it in a different type of way that most n*gas, like conscious rappers do.

Being that your more so, a lyrical, conscious rapper, what is your opinion on the rap music that’s out now?

Aye, Imma say this here bro, I been thinking the sh*t, but n*ggas don’t believe me. I think there’s more talent in Hip-Hop now, then it’s ever been. It’s just a lot of n*ggas just aren’t getting put on as quick. Like, it’s a bunch of n*ggas out here that can deada** spit any type of flow and have bars in that sh*t and it’s just like n*ggas don’t know them like that for real.

So, you’re saying that the people that are underground makes what Hip-Hop is right now?

Essentially, yeah.

So, the people that are out now, what do you think of them?

It’s half and half. It’s n*ggas who are in there literally just making a couple songs and then they’re lit and then there’s n*ggas who, their music may not be any type of bars or consciousness, but they have the ear to make a hit that a n*gga could play in the club.

So, it’s like a different level of artistry to able to make a hit versus being able to just make a good song.

It’s a big difference.

Yeah. It’s a lot of trash n*ggas, too. It’s a lot of a** n*ggas, too.

(laughs) When can we expect a music video for “Schlop Schlop?”

Mmm… I got some visuals for y’all n*ggas. Y’all can expect a video, mm.. in a couple months. That way a couple of months can mean two, three, or four. (laughs) But expect a video before summer time.

Okay! And last question, what should we watch out for in 2018?

You’re probably going to get a mixtape soon. And you’re probably going to get some film projects soon. And we gon keep everything on the low low till everything comes out.

Go listen to his new song "Needs & Wants!" He dropped a Valentine's Day hit! Be on the lookout for more projects, not just musical.
