Many of you guys know about the court case between Taylor Swift and the DJ, David Mueller. And if you don't, I'll give a brief explanation.
Taylor Swift accused DJ David Mueller of sexually assaulting her by grabbing her "bare ass cheek;" those were her words while she was on the stand. As a counter action to Swift taking him to court, Mueller decided to take her to court for defamation to his name, claiming that her accusations were false and that she needs to pay him for basically speaking bad on his name which gave him a negative reputation and he was fired from his job. The judge threw out the case from the DJ and he was trying to sue Taylor Swift for $3 million. Taylor Swift had another counter action, which was her countersuing the DJ for only $1. Taylor Swift won the case and received $1.
Boom. I'm done explaining. Now for my rant.
Yay woohoo, Taylor Swift won the case, I guess that's surprising and great. However, I have a couple problems with the victory and with everything that happened in the case, period!
One of the main problems that I had with this was the fact that there was money involved. Yeah, yeah, I know. She wanted to prove a point. But, that's dumb. Since when was an issue like this supposed to be a matter of suing the other party involved? She said she wanted him to know that 'no is no.' But, let's be real. How old is this guy? He is 55 years old. So, you're telling me that, this man has been on Earth for 55 years and he doesn't know that no means no? He doesn't know what sexual assault is? He doesn't know that touching a female without consent, whether she's rich or poor, is still sexual assault?
There's nothing to prove. The 'symbolic dollar' is just bs to me, honestly. And then she said she didn't want to sue him for more money because she doesn't want him to go bankrupt. My immediate reaction to seeing that she was awarded $1 was that he can easily grab it again if he had the money to. I know it sounds bad, but for real.
He should've gotten a harder punishment than $1, like probation, community service, or even jail time, if there was REALLY a point to prove. Because if the judge honestly believes Taylor Swift's accusations against him, then who's to say that Taylor Swift was the first victim and that it never gotten farther than him grabbing someone's butt cheek.
The $1 was just a slap on the wrist. It wasn't a proven point.
